The BID recycles paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, cans and aluminium foil. We provide recycling bags and tape to pack and secure these items adequately for collection, which normally takes place on Monday evenings between 6pm and 7pm.
Recycling with Paddington BID
In January 2007 Paddington BID launched a trial of weekly paper collections to all small and medium sized businesses in the BID area. The trial was successful and recycling paper became a regular occurrence amongst BID businesses.
In April 2007 we introduced cardboard to the scheme and in November the BID expanded the scheme to include tin cans and plastic bottles.
In 2007 the BID managed to recycle 49,820 kg of paper and 690kg of cans and plastic bottles, which is saving the equivalent of 492 trees and 71,200 kWh of energy.
Recycling Facts
- For every tonne of paper recycled 17 trees are spared, 7000 gallons of water are saved and 4200 KWh less electricity is used.
- On average, each person in the UK uses over 200kg of paper per year.
- Over Christmas as much as 83 km² of wrapping paper will end up in UK rubbish bins, enough to cover an area larger than Guernsey.
- Londoners produce 3.4 million tonnes of rubbish a year, which is enough to fill canary Wharf tower every 10 days.
- In less than two hours the UK produces enough waste to fill the Albert Hall.

Recycling Collection in Paddington
Paddington BID's recycling collection day is MONDAY.
Please place bags and cardboard on the pavement outside your business between 6pm - 7pm.
If your business is located in a mews property, please bring your bags and cardboard to the nearest street.
Please use your TAPE to secure flattened cardboard boxes only.
DO NOT place GLASS and general waste in the recycling bags as these will not be collected.
MISSED BAGS: Please report them to the Paddington BID office before midday by telephoning 020 3145 1212.

Recycling Collections 2008
We shall be continuing to run the successful recycling scheme over the Christmas period. Normal operating times will be in place on the collections of Monday 22nd December, Monday 29th December and Monday 5th January.
Please ensure your recycling is put outside your premises between 18:00 and 19:00 for collection from 19:00. Contact the BID team or use the online order facility at paddington.bid.co.uk to place orders for recycling bags and tape for the period. Please note our office closing times to ensure you have enough bags for the Christmas period.
